12 students from the municipality of Loulé qualified for the National Reading Contest

The next phase will bring together students from the 16 municipalities in the district of Faro

On the 10th of February, the municipality of Loulé selected 12 students to participate in the inter-municipal phase of the National Reading Contest.

After this municipal phase, which took place at the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Municipal Library, in Loulé, the students who advance to the next phase of this initiative are already known, which will bring together, at that moment, students from the 16 municipalities of the district of Faro.

They are: Diogo Vila Lobos (EB1 Areeiro), Maria Leonor Vieira (EB1 nº 4 of Loulé) and Helena Ramos (EB1 nº 3 of Loulé), from the 1st Cycle; Eva Coelho (EB2,3 Father João Coelho Cabanita), Gabriela Leão (EB2,3 D. Dinis) and Matilde Jorge (EB2,3 Engº Duarte Pacheco), from the 2nd Cycle; Carolina Oliveira (International School of Vilamoura), Carlota Fajardo (Engº Duarte Pacheco) and Rodrigo Rosa (EB Padre João Coelho Cabanita), from the 2,3rd Cycle; Laura Santos (Loulé Secondary School), Bruno Almeida (Loulé Secondary School) and Leonor Barreto (Vilamoura International School), from Secondary.

After taking written and oral tests, the participants were evaluated by a jury composed of Rita Moreira, head of the Library Division, Guida Jordão, Library technician, and Ana Farrajota, inter-municipal coordinator of the School Libraries Network.

“Ynari, the girl with five braids”, by Ondjaki (1st Cycle), “The bicycle that had mustaches”, by Ondjaki (2nd Cycle), “The ghost of Canterville”, by Oscar Wilde (3rd Cycle), and “The most beautiful things in the world”, by Valter Hugo Mãe (Secondary) were the works selected to be read by the participants in this municipal phase.

The intermunicipal phase takes place on the 18th of April, in Castro Marim. The final takes place on the 3rd of June.

«The objective of the National Reading Contest is to stimulate the taste and habits of reading and to improve reading comprehension. The initiative is aimed at students from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd cycles of basic education and secondary school students», says the municipality of Loulé.

This is an initiative within the scope of the 2027 National Reading Plan, in partnership with the School Libraries Network, Directorate-General for Books, Archives and Libraries, Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language, Directorate-General for School Administration /Directorate for Teaching Services and Portuguese Schools Abroad and RTP, responsible for television coverage of the event.
