“Mister Minister, will the maternity hospital in Portimão close?”, asks PSD

Portimão PSD launched yesterday, January 26, a new billboard in the city

The Portimão PSD Section Political Commission launched yesterday, January 26, a new billboard in the city, in conjunction with the PSD/Algarve, in which it questions the Minister of Health about the closure of the maternity hospital in Portimão.

“Minister, is the maternity hospital in Portimão going to close?” reads the posters.

In a note sent to the newsrooms, the PSD of Portimão recalls that, in 2022, the Maternidade de Portimão was closed «one in five days» and emphasizes that, within the scope of Manuel Pizarro's visit to the Algarve, it hoped that there would be clarifications on the strategy for the Maternidade de Portimão, something that did not happen.

In addition to launching the issue on a billboard in the city, the party says it will send a set of questions to the Minister of Health.

«People from Portimão, Algarve and Barlaventinos deserve answers and hope in being able to see their children and grandchildren born where their parents and grandparents were born. In so-called developed countries, maternity hospitals increase, we hope that in Portugal they do not decrease as in developing and under-developed countries», they argue, referring that the Minister of Health's responses to the questions posed by the PSD will be released.

«Politically, as this is a non-partisan matter, without even an ideology, the PSD knows that the same political forces that in the past – for much smaller reasons but also in relation to the same Maternidade de Portimão – made human cordons and demonstrations at the door of the Hospital de Portimão against a PSD/CDS Government, today they find it inopportune to confront a PS Government and ask for answers from those who have been governing for 7 years and nothing has changed», the Social Democratic Party also refers.
