The Algarve deputies, elected by the PSD, demand from the Government "maximum transparency" in the construction process of the future desalination plant.
In October last year, António Pina, president of AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve, said, in statements to the Renaissance, that the «best solution» for location is «in Albufeira».
«It is based on this expectation that the environmental impact study on this proposal advances», he guaranteed at the time.
This study has to be ready by March of this year and the PSD requests that there be « a full clarification on the part of the Government, namely the Minister of the Environment », on the « location, size and financing model ».
For deputy Rui Cristina, «the lack of definition and lack of decisions on the part of the Socialist Government regarding the Desalination Plant in the Algarve could compromise the execution of a structural project for the region, within the scope of the PRR».
«The Algarve is an endemic drought region, aggravated by climate change, there are no contingency plans to guarantee human supply, nor for the crucial activities of the regional economy, the dams remain at minimum load, despite the rain this year hydrologically and it is The degradation of the Querença Silves aquifer is worrying», adds the parliamentarian.
According to the PSD, «with regard to the management of the plant, it is urgent to know who will be responsible for operating it, what the expected cost for the construction of the plant is and what co-financing will be granted via the PRR. Just as important, and so that this project, like others, does not fall into oblivion, it is important that the Government clarify the deadline for the construction of the Desalination Plant in the Algarve.
