PSD: ACTA outside the support of the General Directorate of Arts «is absurd»

For Cristóvão Norte, president of PSD Algarve, «chronically culture has had little support in the region»

"An absurdity so great that I find no justification". This is how Cristóvão Norte, president of PSD/Algarve», classifies the exclusion of ACTA – The Algarve Theater Company from the support of the General Directorate of Arts, which is part of the Ministry of Culture.

In addition to ACTA, three other cultural institutions in the Algarve were excluded from this support for the next four years: JAT – Coletivo Janela Aberta Teatro – Associação Cultural, Mãozorra Associação Cultural and Folha de Medronho – Associação de Artes Performativas.

For Cristóvão Norte, president of PSD Algarve, «chronically, culture has had little support in the region, which is a mistake - but nobody expected this».

«Without disdain for all projects», the party leader highlights the «preponderance that ACTA has in the region, also from the point of view of the school and itinerant service it provides – a true public service».

«I have already indicated to PSD deputies the importance of seeking to reverse this decision, questioning the Government, and I know that the mayor of Faro already wrote to the Minister about this. We are all committed to ensuring that this injustice does not continue», he concludes.
