The Regional Command of the Algarve of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) prepared an «extended device with different capacities and areas of intervention, to face the significant influx in demand for events» of New Year's Eve throughout the region, « increasing the commuting movements and the concentration of people».
Thus, the multiple festivities were monitored through the Operational Coordination Center (CCO), which was activated for the most critical period, in a direct articulation between the Operations and Communications Room and the different Municipal Coordination/Command Posts installed next to the largest and most relevant events scheduled for tonight.
These decision-making centers ensured «a swift, effective and efficient response to any occurrence», bringing together the efforts of the Integrated Protection and Rescue Operations System (SIOPS), the Integrated Medical Emergency System (under the responsibility of INEM) and the three forces territorially competent security forces, namely the National Republican Guard (GNR), the Maritime Police (PM) and the Public Security Police (PSP).
There were «more than 600 operatives from the different Civil Protection agents and cooperating entities to materialize the prevention devices organized by the Municipal Civil Protection Services, in a collective effort to maintain the safety of the Algarvians and of the hundreds of thousands of people who chose the Algarve for celebrate this event, safeguarding the places where the greatest concentrations of people are expected, so that the farewell to 2022 and the welcome to 2023 are a success».
At the same time, the Integrated Device for Road Prevention and Intervention (DIPIR) was maintained to reinforce the response forces of each Fire Department, which relied on an additional effort from the main Civil Protection agent, pre- positioning 50 firefighters and 14 road rescue vehicles in six strategic locations, to mobilize and anticipate help.
The Regional Command of the Algarve of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection makes «a special thanks to the Women and Men of the teams of the City Councils, Parish Councils and Municipal Companies, the Fire Brigades and respective entities, of the Maritime Authority, Red Cross Portuguesa, GNR, INEM, PSP, PM, Municipal Police, Lifeguards, Private Security companies, Hospital Units, IPSS and other collectivities and, in short, to all those who on this special night» integrated or collaborated with the Integrated System devices of Protection and Rescue Operations (SIOPS) of the Algarve Region.
