Music, dance and theater: Lethes presents programming (only) until May

Programming was presented by ACTA this Saturday, January 21

The Teatro Lethes program until May, presented by ACTA – Companhia de Teatro do Algarve, this Saturday, January 21st, will be very focused on music, but there will also be theatre, dance and cinema.

One of the highlights shows, according to the Sul Informação Luís Vicente, artistic director of ACTA, is the concert of the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, scheduled for the 19th and 20th of May.

«It is an absolutely unprecedented work, the text of which was written by Alexandre Honrado, one of our collaborators. It is a world premiere show and therefore it is a show not to be missed.»

Another equally innovative suggestion, but in the area of dance, is the Solo de Israel Galvan, scheduled for April 14th.

«It is a flamenco show presented in an innovative way», explains Luís Vicente, referring that Israel Galvan has been one of the great «renovators of Flamenco».

The fact that ACTA was out of funding of the Sustained Support Program of the Directorate-General for the Arts (DGArtes) means that the coming times will be uncertain and, therefore, the decision was taken to present the program only until May.

«We have the program completed by the end of the year, but we are not going to present it because we don't know what to expect in the coming months», stresses the artistic director, stressing that, since the application for four-year support was not accepted, it remains to wait for the alternative of resorting to the punctual, whose answers only arrive in May of this year.

According to Luís Vicente, the lack of support is already greatly influencing the work. «We already have two less people with us and we will most likely have to lay off more. We also had a tour scheduled for the North of the country and Spain that we had to cancel».

Classifying the situation as «absolutely unexpected», Luís Vicente stresses that at this moment there is always the possibility of having to change the already defined schedule. Even so, the artistic director of ACTA points out that there have been many local entities that have already shown support.

«The Chamber of Faro is available to support us and the Intermunicipal Community as well. Here in the Theater Lethes, people have also appeared to show their availability to assist us in whatever is necessary, on a voluntary basis. In addition, the political forces in the region, from the PSD to the Left Block, passing through the PS, have all expressed their availability to us», he continues.

In addition to the two shows already mentioned, the program for the coming months has many more options, which start on the 24th of January, with the theater show “As Cartas Ridículos”, a dramatization of some of the correspondence exchanged between Fernando Pessoa and Ofélia Queiroz, on display until the 3rd of February.
