“The Management of the Cult of Nossa Senhora da Piedade: the stewardship of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, between 1806 and 1911” is the theme of another conference integrated in the cycle “Loulé on the line of time”, which will be presented this Saturday, 21 January, at 15 pm, at the Municipal Archive of Loulé Professor Joaquim Romero Magalhães.

Historian João Chagas Aleixo is the one who brings the theme to this cultural space in the city of Loulé.

The conference will discuss the daily life of the Stewardship of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, between 1806 and 1911, and will try to answer the following questions: «What are its objectives? What is the annual evolution of Stewardship's total income and expenses? What is the annual evolution of the main ordinary revenues and expenses of Stewardship? What is the annual evolution of the main extraordinary revenues and expenses of Stewardship? What were the main works carried out by Mordomia in the hermitage throughout the XNUMXth century? How was the annual Feast of Piety prepared and organized? How did the Festa da Piedade evolve over the course of the XNUMXth century? What is the dimension of the Festa da Piedade, in relation to the number of faithful participating, in the context of the largest pilgrimages from North to South of the country throughout the XNUMXth century?».

João Romero Chagas Aleixo holds a PhD in Contemporary History from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He is a researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History at Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
