26-year-old man arrested for attempted murder at nightclub in Faro

He is also suspected of drug trafficking.

A 26-year-old man was arrested yesterday by the Judiciary Police's Southern Directorate for "strong indications" of having been the author of an attempted murder, which took place on the night of October 23, at a nightlife establishment in Faro.

The case took place after an altercation between the suspect and elements of the private security of the place, after the man refused to pay for the alcoholic beverages consumed.

An hour later, the suspect returned to the establishment, wielding a firearm, with which he pursued the security guards who were at the door, to the interior. There, he fired "in the direction" of one of the security guards.

According to the PJ, at the time there were “about 270 people” in the disco.

Culminating several months of investigation, the presumed author of the attempted murder was arrested yesterday.

The Judiciary adds that "he is also charged with the crime of drug trafficking".

The detainee will be present today for judicial interrogation, so that coercive measures can be applied to him.

The inquiry is directed by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of Faro.
