“French Film of the Month” returns to Portimão to show good cinema

This year, in addition to Portimão, the cities of Loulé and Faro

“The French Film of the Month” is back in Portimão. The first session is on the 26th of January, but until June, there will be good Gallic cinema to see, always at 21 pm on the last Thursday of each month, and with free admission to the Museum Auditorium. 

«Sponsored jointly by the Alliance Française do Algarve, the Institut Français and the Group of Friends of the Museum of Portimão (GAMP), this cycle of French cinema, in addition to promoting to the Algarve public the great cinematographic successes in the language of Molière, is also intended to attract the many French people who, more and more, live in the region or spend their holidays in the Algarve, allowing them to get to know the regional history and heritage», says the Portimão Council.

The first film of this new cycle is entitled “Rouge” (Drama), was directed by Farid Bentoumi in 2020 and will be shown on January 26, from 21 pm, in the auditorium of the Portimão Museum.

This drama, lasting 1h28, deals with the life of nurse Nour, who has just been hired by a chemical factory where her father works. While the factory is under a health investigation, a young journalist investigates waste management. The two young women will, little by little, discover that this factory, a pillar of the local economy, hides many secrets.

All films are shown on the last Thursday of the month and in the original French version, with subtitles in Portuguese, on the following dates: January 26 – “Rouge”, by Farid Bentoumi; February 23 – “Petit Pays” by Eric Barbier; March 30 – “De nos frères blessés”, by Hélier Cisterne; 27 April – “La dernière vie de Simon”, by Léo Karmann; May 25th – “L'Autre Continent”, by Romain Cogitore, and June 29th – “Les 2 Alfred”, Bruno Podalydès.

Alliance Française do Algarve, whose headquarters are located in Faro, is a non-profit association whose purpose is to promote the French language and culture, including the teaching of French and Portuguese for French speakers, in addition to conducting French exams and translations, among other actions.

In March 2018, the entity decided to expand its presence to the western Algarve and established a partnership protocol with GAMP, aimed at strengthening friendly and cultural ties with the local associative fabric, thanks to which the cycle “The French Film of the Month” started to take place in Portimão.

This year, in addition to Portimão, the cities of Loulé and Faro.
