Photo exhibition warns of dangerous impact of pollution

It will be at MAR Shopping Algarve, from the 9th of February

The “Living Among What's Left Behind” photography exhibition, which aims to raise community awareness of global environmental and social problems, will be at MAR Shopping Algarve, starting on the 9th of February.

The show brings together images that photojournalist Mário Cruz recorded of extreme pollution along the Pasig River in the Philippines.

With free admission, until the 9th of April, the exhibition presents a record captured over a month by the communities surrounded by the Pasig River, which was once an important economic vector of Manila, capital of the Philippines.

After years of neglect, it has been considered biologically dead since 1990, «being a reflection of an extremely unequal society, in which 21,6% of the population lives below the poverty line, in a daily fight against pollution», according to data from the Philippine Authority. of Statistics.

The exhibition's dramatic images exclaim the domestic waste and constant industrial dumps that have turned the Pasig River into a sewer.

For Ana Antunes, from MAR Shopping Algarve, the exhibition awakens the message about the treatment we give to our waste, even in developed countries and how much the problems of other realities lead us to reflect on the proximity of this problem.

«We are a shopping center with an environmental and social concern that aims to achieve environmental neutrality in 2030. We want to contribute to healthier and more sustainable lives in the community we are part of, so we hosted the exhibition in our meeting place", highlights.

Winner of the World Press Photo, the Portuguese photojournalist creates works with a focus on injustice and social problems. In the Algarve, the exhibition is a motto for reflections of future generations, mobilizing a reflection on the impact of our day-to-day behavior in the future.

«The exhibition is an example of the dangerous path that humanity takes when basic human needs and the environment are ignored», emphasizes Mário Cruz.

The exhibition is on the 1st floor, in the food court.
