MEP José Gusmão meets with a group of activists from Alagoas Brancas

MEP José Gusmão (BE), who was also head of the list for the Algarve in the last Legislatures, will meet next Friday, January 6th, from 17 pm, with a group of activists from Alagoas Brancas (Lagoa) .

The meeting point will be the Aldi hypermarket car park (on Carvoeiro road).

From there, there will be a short tour, during which MEP José Gusmão will listen to the population and activists.

Work on the construction of a commercial park, which began at the beginning of November, was stopped a few days later, after the Administrative and Fiscal Court of Loulé upheld the injunction brought by the People-Animals-Natureza (PAN).

The Alagoas Brancas are a wetland, on the coast of the municipality of Lagoa.

According to a 2019 study, supported by the Environmental Fund, 114 species of birds were identified, highlighting the presence in this location of at least 1% of the national caiman breeding population (porphyry porphyry) and 1% of the regional population (Mediterranean, Black Sea and West Africa) of Ibis Preta (Plegadis falcinellus) and species with an unfavorable conservation status, such as the ridged shell turtle classified as “Endangered” and the Gecko gecko classified as “Vulnerable”.
