16 of the 254 vacancies that the Ministry of Health will open to reinforce the response capacity of the National Health Service (SNS), with more doctors, are for the Algarve, learned the Sul Informação.
The contest, published in Diário da República this Monday, January 9th, is intended to recruit young specialist doctors who completed their training in the special evaluation period of the 2022 medical internship, but it is also open to clinicians who do not have a definitive bond with the National Health Service or others who are outside the SNS and want to return.
In this way, the number of vacancies now available in this tender procedure is greater than the number of newly specialized doctors who finished their training in the second season of last year, in particular in the area of General and Family Medicine.
In total, and nationally, 196 vacancies are planned for the General and Family Medicine area, 24 for the Public Health area and 34 vacancies for the hospital area.
In the case of the Algarve, there will be 13 places in General and Family Medicine, distributed by the Group of Health Centers (ACES) Central (6) – UCSP Albufeira (2), UCSP Olhão (1), UCSP São Brás de Alportel (1) and UCSP Faro (2) –, by ACES Barlavento (5) – UCSP Aljezur (1), UCSP Lagoa (1), UCSP Monchique (1), UCSP Portimão (1) and UCSP Silves (1) –, and by ACES Sotavento (2) – UCSP Aleo (1) and UCSP Mar (1).
In addition, there are two vacancies in Public Health for ACES Central, and one vacancy in Medical Oncology for Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve.
The Ministry of Health clarifies that "vacancies for hospital specialties correspond to "profile" vacancies - which implies the possession of specific technical and professional conditions, acquired in the context of medical internship, and which respond to the expressed needs of hospital units ».
In addition to this procedure, "doctors in the specialties involved in emergency work have also been recruited in recent months under specific legislation", the Ministry also mentions.
However, after publication of the competition in Diário da República, the Union Independent of Doctors (YES) regrets that only 34 vacancies are opened for hospitals.
«In specialties as lacking as anesthesiology, internal medicine, obstetrics, general surgery, pediatrics, among many others, not even a vacancy opens», says the SIM.
Also according to that Ministry, so far, hospitals have hired 275 doctors under Decree-Law no. 50-A/2022, a mechanism that is still in force, with the participation of the SNS Executive , to reflect on the need for a new framework for medical recruitment in the National Health Service, with a view to greater attractiveness and capacity to retain specialists.
In this way, the Ministry of Health says it is continuing «the commitment assumed by the Government to invest in the SNS's capacity to respond and differentiate itself, strengthening the various services and health establishments».
Between 2015 and 2022, the number of specialist physicians in the SNS increased by 25%, representing an increase of 4 specialist physicians.
