“Água Jovem” competition once again challenges Algarve students

The award ceremony will take place on the 2nd of June, in Monchique, during the 2023 Água Jovem Forum

The 13th edition of the competition “Água Jovem”, aimed at all children and young people who attend pre-school education and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education in the Algarve, registration is open until 1st of March. 

This contest is open to works from various areas: model, drawing, poster, comics, text, video, audio, happening/performance.

«The main objective is to raise awareness, inform and disseminate among school communities the importance of preserving the water heritage, promoting knowledge of the region’s aquatic ecosystems and contributing to their participatory management», explains the Portuguese Environment Agency.

The competition will distinguish the best works in the categories: pre-school education, 1st cycle of basic education, 2nd cycle of basic education, 3rd cycle of basic education and students who benefit from selective and additional educational measures.

The themes of this edition are: the “Water Alliance” (Theme I), the “Serra de Monchique – The importance of water and its aquatic ecosystems” (Theme II) and the “Water Challenges – Impact of Climate Change (SDG13 ) in SDG 6”.

Works in all formats will be accepted, creativity being encouraged in all aspects (contents, materials, techniques, etc.).

Entries must be made by the 1st of March and the works delivered to the APA – ARH do Algarve by the 1st of May. The award ceremony will take place on the 2nd of June, in Monchique, during the 2023 Água Jovem Forum.

The Contest jury is made up of representatives of the organizing entities, the ICNF – Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests and the DGEstE – Directorate-General for School Establishments – DSR Algarve.

This is a joint initiative with Águas do Algarve, Mundo Aquático (Zoomarine) and International Water Technology.
