A visit to the site and an overview of the project for the new bridge over the Guadiana, between Alcoutim and Sanlúcar, with a presentation of the timetables to be achieved. This is one of the highlights of a working meeting on cross-border cooperation to be held this Thursday, January 26th, in Mértola and Alcoutim, which will be attended by Isabel Ferreira, Secretary of State for Regional Development.

The initiative is promoted by the Commissions for Coordination and Regional Development (CCDR) of Alentejo and Algarve and by the Board of Andalusia.

The objective is to "deepen and develop cross-border cooperation ties in the context of the Alentejo – Algarve – Andalusia Euroregion (EuroAAA), namely in the areas of green infrastructure and biodiversity, navigability and enhancement of the Baixo Guadiana, blue growth and fire prevention", explains the Algarve CCDR.

At this meeting, the Action Plan for the Algarve, recently finalized with the participation of all interested parties, will be presented, as well as the Integrated Territorial Intervention (ITI) Water and Landscape Ecosystems, developed in partnership by CCDR Algarve and Alentejo.

The navigability and enhancement of the Guadiana River will be addressed and debated by the teams that have been working on this topic, throughout the different financial frameworks, in particular Docapesca, the Hydrographic Institute and the General Directorate of Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM) , on the Portuguese side, and the Ports of Andalusia, on Spain.

Coordinated by the Junta de Andalucía and with a wide range of partners, the ATLAZUL cooperation project has as its main objective to create a set of opportunities through specialized networks that promote Blue Growth in the cross-border area, as well as to implement innovative policies through new technologies to improve knowledge in land and maritime/marine environments.

The network of strategic partners of the “European Alliance of Universities of the Sea” (SEA-EU) will also be presented, a supercampus international involving nine sea-oriented universities with more than 122.832 students and 16.909 employees, including 10.427 teaching and research staff, whose national participation is led by the University of Algarve (UAlg).
