Death and palliative care will be the topic of conversation without taboos in Portimão

on the 19st

Drinking coffee, eating a piece of cake and talking… about death. The proposal comes from the Psychosocial Support Team (EAPS) of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA), which will promote a Death Café on Palliative Care, in partnership with Teia D'Impulsos, in the root space, the headquarters of this association, in Portimão, on the 19th of December, between 18:00 and 19:30.

«Why should it be a taboo to talk about death?», question the organizers of the event, who will gather around the same table several guests and representatives of institutions and associations that «develop a work of proximity in the communities where they operate», to talk about the theme “Feeling Compassionate”.

This Death Café «will function as a welcoming space, for sharing and reflection», and intends, from the outset, «to demystify myths and prejudices associated with death and palliative care», according to the promoters of the event.

«To raise awareness and inform about themes such as compassionate communities, advanced illness, the end of life and the death process», «contribute to the involvement of citizens in supporting the sick person and their families» and «promote health literacy in this very specific area of caring» are other goals of this Death Café.
