Lagos bets on the acquisition of properties in «strategic locations»

A total of four

The Municipality of Lagos voted in favor, at the last council meeting, of the proposal for a resolution to request the declaration of public utility related to the acquisition of several properties «of relevant interest» for the implementation of the housing program and expansion of municipal facilities.

Of the four properties, three are located in Lagos, on Rua de Santo Amaro, forming the building complex commonly known as “Fábrica do Aldite”.

In a note, the municipality explains that this old and deactivated industrial complex is located in a very central area where the development of housing solutions is planned, which are part of the Local Housing Strategy and financed under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, which will allow housing, under supported leasing, about fifty families.

In the free zone adjacent to the Santo Amaro Market, a broader urban requalification action is planned that includes the provision of lots for self-construction, the green area component, the reformulation of accessibilities and the enhancement of the relationship with
the various equipment in the area and with the existing memory and historical heritage.

The fourth urban building is the property called “Antiga Lastra” where, in the past, a decorative ceramics factory operated.

Located in Chinicato, next to the city council facilities, its acquisition «is seen as an opportunity that will allow the expansion and reorganization of the municipal facilities of the current Department of Environmental and Urban Sustainability, with benefits in terms of access and functionality of services, improvement of conditions of work and safety of people and goods".

The municipality had already unsuccessfully tried to acquire the properties through private law, but has now decided to start the acquisition process in the amount of 1.247.413,48 euros through expropriation, having, for this purpose, approved the resolution to request to the Secretary of State for Local Administration and Territorial Planning the declaration of public utility.
