There's a Planet in Fury and a special race to see at the Portimão Museum

Find out who were the winners of the Portimão Photographic Race

A “Planet in Fury” due to climate change, through the lens of Bruno Gonçalves, and the winning works of another Photographic Race, will be on display at the Museum of Portimão, from the 11th of December, the Day of the City of Portimão.

In the session on the 11th, a Sunday, in addition to the inauguration of the two exhibitions, prizes will be awarded to the winners of the 22nd edition of the Photographic Race of Portimão, in which 131 photography lovers signed up in person and online, from ten different nationalities, «which gave the event a strong international dimension», according to the Portimão City Council.

The awards for the face-to-face edition, which took place on the 14th of May and gave participants the «opportunity to record, through an attentive and creative eye, three photographs on each of the eight proposed themes, related to the cultural and natural heritage, the , the people and environments of Portimão», were won by Francisco Martins (1st prize), Joana Pires (2nd), Paulo Martins (3rd), while Erica Fernandes won the Young Prize.

 

 

In the online modality – “distance participation was maintained and extended, as in the last two years of the pandemic” -, José Oliveira won the first prize, seconded by Dania Rodrigues and António Tendim, while Carolina Barata won the Young and Francisco Martins the Special Jury Prize.

Those registered in the online modality could send their 12 photos from anywhere in the country and the world, on the generic theme “Life”, based on the following themes: The Uncertainty of Life; Resistance, Resilience and Survival; A Fragile Heritage; and Is this what makes me happy?

 

 

The exhibition, which can be visited until April 23, 2023 (Tuesday from 14:30 pm to 18:00 pm and Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm), also displays the 12 best photos of each theme, eight of the face-to-face modality and four from online.

Corrida Fotoográfica, an organization of the Municipality and the Museum of Portimão, with the support of Musubmar/Ocean Revival, CLCC, Restinga, GAMP-Group of Friends of the Museum of Portimão, NAFA and Sul Informação, as a media partner.

 

 

At the same time, the exhibition “Planet in Fury” will open at the Museum, with photos by environmental engineer Bruno Gonçalves, born in Portimão, «the aim of which is to raise awareness of the profound and severe changes in climate through images that combine unparalleled beauty, but equally destructive".

«This is an opportune exhibition that, due to the fact that we live in a global context, alerts and challenges visitors to take an active part in the development of the necessary actions, tending to minimize planetary fury, in favor of a more sustainable way of living in our world. and only planet Earth», describes the City Council of Portimão.

These images of storms, volcanoes, events and severe effects can be seen until February 19th, during the opening hours of the Museum of Portimão, organized by the Municipality and the Museum of Portimão, with the support of Autorent, CityHome, Niobo and Seven Rabbits .
