Freshwater management challenges in the Guadiana estuary discussed in Tavira

The challenges of freshwater management in the Guadiana estuary were discussed, on the 30th of November, at the first participatory meeting of the “Switch” project, which took place at the Centro Ciência Viva in Tavira.

This initiative «was attended by technicians and officials from Municipalities, managing entities, local associations and researchers from the University of the Algarve».

According to the Centro Ciência Viva de Tavia, «the contributions of all participants will be included in the final report of the meeting, with a view to a better understanding of the needs, challenges and solutions for the sustainable management of water in this estuary and it is intended to be carried out over the course of of the project additional meetings that promote the practical applicability of the results of the same by the different regional actors and respective incorporation in decision-making processes».

The project is the responsibility of researcher Erwan Garel from the Center for Marine and Environmental Research - CIMA of the University of Algarve and has as partners the University of Florida, the University of Seville, the Centro de Ciência Viva de Tavira, LNEC - Laboratório Nacional de Civil Engineering and the University of Granada, being funded by FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology.
