The heavy rain, which has been felt in the Algarve since the afternoon of this Sunday, December 4th, caused flooding in Quarteira, mainly in Rua Vasco da Gama.

The photos show this artery – one of the main ones in the city – flooded.

A garage was flooded and, according to CNN Portugal, there are also reports of the same scenario in stores.

The rain also flooded Avenida Carlos Mota Pinto, near the Polvo roundabout.

This is not a new scenario: both in 2012 and in 2017, Rua Vasco da Gama was hit by heavy rain.

This Sunday afternoon, the Civil Protection issued an alert to the population for the risk of flooding in the south of the country – Algarve and Alentejo – due to heavy rainfall.

The most critical period will be between 00:00 and 15:00 on Monday.
