Algarve Catholics will support the diocese of Kiev this Christmas

This weekend

With the aim of supporting the Diocese from Kiev, Ukraine, the various parishes in the Algarve will collect funds this Christmas.

The Barlavento Pastoral Region will collect, on the 4th Sunday of Advent, December 18th, donations, before or after Sunday masses, or at other times. In the Pastoral Region of Sotavento, the parishes will allocate an offertory on one of the next Sundays to be sent to Ukrainian Christians who are suffering from the war.

According to the Information Office of the Diocese of the Algarve, this initiative gained strength after receiving a letter written by the Archbishop of Kiev, addressed to the President of the CEP and to each Bishop of Portugal, «calling for solidarity in this time that we live in an increasingly increasingly difficult, with the arrival of winter and constant Russian offensives, which have been weakening the structures that supply electricity and other essential goods».

D. Manuel Neto Quintas, Bishop of the Algarve, requests the «involvement of our parish communities in this response, knowing that we are aware of their sensitivity and openness, particularly in this Christmas season, with the people and the Ukrainian Catholic Church, namely in responding to the various difficulties presented by the Archbishop of Kiev in his letter».
