Algarve has 703 applications approved at MAR2020

An investment of more than 80 million euros

There are 2020 approved, executed or ongoing applications in the Algarve to date at MAR703, resulting in an investment of more than 80 million euros and public support of 65 million euros from these initiatives.

The information was released this Friday, December 2, by the Regional Directorate for Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve, which refers that in relation to the indicated priority axes, this number of applications corresponds to a quarter of the total applications submitted within the scope of the Regional Directorates , representing amounts of investment and public expenditure of around 16%.

«In terms of priority Axes, in which MAR2020 is structured, the measures of Axis 2, associated with aquaculture, are the most represented in the region, corresponding to 28% of the total applications, and to more than 43% of the investment, in terms regions», refers the DRAP in a note, emphasizing that these investments originate in the more than a thousand existing structures in the region, mainly located in the interdithal zones (Ria Formosa and Alvor), and dedicated to the production of bivalves, to which are added the licensed offshore aquaculture production units between Sagres and Vila Real de Santo António

Originating in the field of fishing activity, corresponding to Priority Axis 1, we have the highest number of submitted applications (about 60% of applications in the region). Applications are divided into different measures: investments on board or compensation for temporary interruptions.

The initiative for these applications comes from the universe of fishing vessels registered in the captaincies of the region, especially those dedicated to coastal fishing. This Axis 1 also includes investments in fishing ports, landing sites, shelters and auctions.

Axes 4 and 5 reflect the activity of the Barlavento and Sotavento Coastal Action Groups, and investments in the marketing and processing of fishery and aquaculture products, respectively.
