The traditional Christmas market, an ice rink, a live crib and lots of entertainment. Albufeira will celebrate Christmas from this Thursday, December 8th, and until the 31st, downtown will be “full of color and magic”.
The opening of “Albufeira Natal” is scheduled for 15 pm today, with the arrival of Santa Claus.
The Mayor of Albufeira refers that «this year the program was reinforced with more days, more events and a larger area, in what is a strong bet of the Municipality in an event that intends to attract more visitors to Albufeira at this time of year».
José Carlos Rolo stresses that, “after two years of the pandemic, it is necessary to return the hope, joy and magic of Christmas to everyone, especially children”. and takes the opportunity to invite all citizens to visit the event.
Every day, there will be events taking place at Largo Eng.o Duarte Pacheco, Praça dos Pescadores, Avenida 25 de Abril, Avenida da Liberdade and Rua 5 de Outubro.
This Thursday, the 8th, after the arrival of Santa Claus, there will be, at 16 pm, in the P30 store, in the Parking lot of Avenida 5 de Abril, the inauguration of the Sacred Art Exhibition entitled “Sagrada Família”.
It is a set of 17 pieces of painting and sculpture, alluding to the Christian faith associated with Christmas celebrations, which are part of a wider collection, with a total of 158 pieces, donated by Maria José de Jesus Bispo to the Municipality of Albufeira.
The same location also features the exhibition “A More Ecological Christmas in Albufeira”, a display of works carried out by the school public and users of the council's Homes and Day Centers, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of reusing materials, applied to the creation of traditional Christmas decorations.
From Monday to Sunday, the exhibition can be seen from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 13:30 pm to 17:30 pm. The exhibition will be closed on the 24th, 25th and 31st, as well as on the 1st of January.
At 20:00 today, the animation moves to the stage installed in Largo Engº Duarte Pacheco, where a Tribute to Michael Bublé show is scheduled.
«On Saturday, the 10th, we highlight the Christmas Concert by the Sociedade Musical e Recreio Popular de Paderne, at 21:00, in the Main Church of Paderne, a show that is repeated, on the 11th, Sunday, from 17:00, in the Mother Church de Albufeira", says the City Council.
From the 13th to the 23rd, there will be Circo Bravo, originally from Ukraine, for the first time in Portugal.
On the 15th, starting at 9 am, the Motoclube de Albufeira Fathers' Walk takes place, filling the main streets of the city and some institutions in the municipality with color and animation.
«On this day, we also highlight the Christmas show by Associação LUEL “A Época Mágica”, taking place in the Municipal Auditorium of Albufeira, from 19 pm», says the municipality.
Solidarity initiatives are a constant at Christmas. On Saturday, the 17th, starting at 15 pm, there will be a Giant Solidarity Cake, to distribute to those visiting the Christmas Market and on the 00th, Sunday, the revenue from the Circo Bravo show “Aqua Show”, with sessions taking place at 18:12, 00:16 and 00:21 are intended for support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
From the 17th to the 24th of December, the birth of Jesus will be represented in a Live Crib, on display at Rua 5 de Outubro.
The traditional Santa Claus Run, organized by the Municipality in collaboration with the IPDJ, on the 18th, starts at 10:00 am.
The Orquestra Clássica do Sul Christmas Concert will take place on the 21st, at 21 pm, with the main conductor of Orquestra Vitae de Londres Pablo Urbina, for the first time in Portugal.
There is daily Street Entertainment with the North Pole Troupe, made up of Santa Claus, reindeer and elves.
The Christmas train, with three stations, one located in Praça dos Pescadores, one in Largo Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco and another in Avenida da Liberdade, will be circulating during all the days of the event.
In addition, there will be a carousel, inflatables and workshops at the Samora Barros Municipal Gallery.
In musical terms, Miguel Gameiro's concert closes the Albufeira Natal program on the 30th. Admission is free and the show starts at 20 pm.
On the 8th, 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th, Albufeira Natal runs from 12:00 to 22:00; on the 24th and 31st from 12h00 to 16h00 and on the remaining days from 18h00 to 22h00. The event will close on Christmas Day.
