VRSA wants to make a mobility agreement for workers with the “sister” municipality of Sal

Algarve municipality has been twinned with the city of Sal, in Cape Verde, since 2009

Establishing a worker mobility agreement between Sal, in Cape Verde, and Vila Real de Santo António, was one of the topics addressed during a visit that Júlio Lopes, mayor of that Cape Verdean municipality, made to VRSA this week.

The visit also served to «exchange experiences and deepen the twinning protocol signed between Vila Real de Santo António and Sal in 2009», according to the VRSA Chamber.

According to Álvaro Araújo, mayor of VRSA, who received the Cape Verdean delegation at the Paços do Concelho, on Monday, the two municipalities “are planning the development of collaborative projects in the area of tourism, and are also the establishment of a mobility agreement between workers from the two countries should be considered».

Also on the table was «the possibility of promoting the visit of a delegation of Portuguese businessmen to Cape Verde, in order to share synergies».

Júlio Lopes, for his part, considered that “tourism and the fishing sector are fundamental assets that unite the two municipalities and foster their close relations”, having also defended that, “more than cooperation between municipalities, this twinning above all, it must unite the populations and entrepreneurs of the two countries».

In addition to being received by the municipal executive and council presidents of the municipality, the Cape Verdean delegation, which also included the councilor of the municipality of Sal with the responsibility for Youth and Sports, Euclides do Rosário, and the Ambassadors of Sal, Altino Ferreira and Ildo Rocha, got to know various municipal facilities and infrastructure, namely the VRSA Sports Complex.

In addition to cementing the link between the two locations, this exchange aims to exchange experiences and deepen the twinning protocol signed between Vila Real de Santo António and Sal in 2009.
