University of Algarve debates the “80 years of Teaching Landscape Architecture in Portugal”

Session will have communications from Teresa Andresen (UP), Cristina Castel Branco (ISA-CEABN) and Sónia Azambuja (UAlg)

The University of Algarve promotes a conference on the “80 years of Landscape Architecture Teaching in Portugal”, as part of the commemorations of the European Academic Heritage Day. It will be on the 18th of November, at 14:30 pm, in the Rector's Seminar Room, on the Gambelas Campus, in Faro.

The conference will be opened by Nuno Bicho (vice-rector of UAlg) and communications by Teresa Andresen (UP), Cristina Castel Branco (ISA-CEABN) and Sónia Azambuja (UAlg).

The first Landscape Architecture course was created in 1942 by Francisco Caldeira Cabral, at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, in Lisbon. At the University of Algarve, the course began in the academic year 1998/1999.

On the same day, at the Library in Gambelas, two exhibitions will be inaugurated: “Landscape Architecture Teaching at the University of Algarve” (opens at 14:30 pm) and “80 years of Landscape Architecture Teaching in Portugal: 1942-2022”, curated by Sónia Azambuja, which opens at 16:30 pm and will be open until 25 November.
