UAlg co-organizes scientific meeting of the European Council of Languages

In European higher education, university alliances have been created in recent years in which multilingualism and multiculturalism are structuring elements

The annual scientific meeting of the European Council of Languages ​​takes place on the 1st and 2nd of December at the University of Seville. At the proposal of Manuel Célio Conceição, professor of Language Sciences at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCHS) and researcher at the Center for Research in Arts and Communication (CIAC), this year's theme is languages ​​within the European alliances of universities .

In European higher education, university alliances have been created in recent years in which multilingualism and multiculturalism are structuring elements, but this is the first time that these alliances and the institutions that constitute them are asked to reflect on this issue. This is an event of high scientific relevance and university governance that the University of Algarve is a co-organiser.

In response to the request for communications about “Languages ​​in European University Alliances: challenges and issues”, large dozens of proposals were received and the scientific committee selected those included in the program. Manuel Célio da Conceição assumes the functions of rapporteur of the event and will make the final intervention, on the 2nd of December.

The University of Algarve is a member of the European Alliance designated Universities of the Seas, within which there is a line of research dedicated to multilingualism and science communication for which the aforementioned professor is responsible.
