UAlg awards an Honoris Causa Doctorate in Tourism to Jafar Jafari

Honorary title will be awarded later this month

Jafar Jafari, specialist, researcher and international editor, professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout (USA) and founding president of the Tourism Intelligence Forum (Italy), will receive the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Tourism from the University of Algarve, in a ceremony scheduled for the 16th of November, at 17:30 pm, in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Grand Auditorium, on the institution's Gambelas Campus, in Faro.

The public ceremony is open to the entire community and includes an academic procession, scheduled for 18:00, a musical moment, an intervention by the Rector of UAlg, laudation given by João Albino Silva and the speech by Jafar Jafari.

«The proposal to award the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Tourism to Professor Jafar Jafari was an initiative of the Faculty of Economics (FE), having unanimously received favorable opinions from all the Scientific and Technical-Scientific Councils» , according to UAlg.

 

About Jafar Jafari:

Jafar Jafari is founding editor of Annals of Tourism Research; editor-in-chief of the Tourism Social Science Series; co-editor-in-chief of the Bridging Tourism Theory and Practice Series; editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Tourism; Co-founder editor of Information Technology & Tourism magazine and Co-founder of TRINET: Tourism Research Information.

He is also co-founding president of the Tourism Intelligence Forum and founding president of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism.

He holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology (University of Minnesota, USA) and a Master’s in Hotel Management (Cornell University, USA), he also holds an Honoris Causa Doctorate from the University of the Balearic Islands (Spain) and won the “Prize 2005 United Nations World Tourism Organization Ulysses Award”.

He is also visiting professor at Sun Yat-sen University (China), University of Algarve (Portugal), University of Isfahan (Iran), honorary professor at Bundelkhand University (India) and professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Stout (USA). .

He has been a consultant and advisor to several intergovernmental agencies (including the UNWTO and the Inter-American Development Bank) and to several ministries of Tourism.
