Tavira will mark Diabetes Week this week, between the 14th and 20th of November, under the theme “Educating to protect tomorrow!”.
The action aims to raise awareness and awareness of the population for the prevention and control of the disease, as well as promoting citizenship and a healthy lifestyle.
In a note, the municipality stresses that the increase of this pathology, in Portugal, «is accentuated and worrying, so it becomes imperative to counteract
this trend and join forces in the fight against its expansion".
Several initiatives are scheduled for this period, such as the lighting of the Paços do Concelho building with blue lights.
The program also includes awareness-raising actions, a performance by the Singing Group “Side by Side” and walks.
Diabetes Week is organized by the Talabriga Community Care Unit, through the Community Project Viver bem com a Diabetes, ARS Algarve, ACeS Algarve III Sotavento and the Municipality of Tavira, which has the collaboration of the Parish Councils of the county.

9 am: Opening session of the Diabetes Week with representatives from the Municipality of Tavira and ARS Algarve/ACES Sotavento
10:00: Assessment of the 10-year risk of diabetes in the adult and senior population of the county
– Awareness actions on diabetes prevention and control by health professionals at UCC Talabriga. Dissemination of ACES Sotavento services.
– Action to raise awareness about healthy eating habits in the context of the Mediterranean Diet, by
nutritionist at the Tavira Health Center.
– Exhibition of posters and campaign alluding to the day (International Diabetes Federation Campaign – WDD 2022).
