Old sounds “D'Aquém Mar” sound in Lagos and Lagoa

Six concerts are scheduled

The early music festival “Sons D'Aquém Mar” will take place in different venues in Lagoa and Lagos, between the 26th of November and the 9th of December.

The shows, three in each of the municipalities, always take place at 17 pm, except for the last one, in Lagos, which will take place at 00 pm. The first four concerts are free, but those on the 19th and 00th of December are paid.

The six concerts that make up the program, performed by the Orquestra Barroca D'Aquém Mar, «prescribe a journey through different styles and languages ​​of historically grounded music and whose starting point is the interdependence of the Algarve with the sea as an area intrinsically linked to the Portuguese Discoveries», according to the Artis XXI association, which organizes the event in partnership with Questão Repetida.

The festival starts on the 26th of November, with a recorder, baroque cello and harpsichord concert at the Church of Bensafrim, in Lagos

On the 27th, the public is invited to attend a concert in which a soprano is accompanied by a harp, theorbo and movement, at Quinta da Palmeirinha, in Lagoa.

On the 3rd and 4th of December, the star of the shows is the baroque guitar. The shows, on these days, take place, respectively, at Igreja da Luz, in Lagos, and at Igreja Matriz de Porches, in Lagoa.

The two paid concerts are performed by the Orquestra Barroca D'Aquém Mar, «the only one in the south of Lisbon that is embarking on a journey in order to create stability in the region and allow a larger repertoire to be heard, namely accompanied by by vocal ensemble».

On the 8th of December, the show is presented at the Municipal Auditorium Carlos do Carmo. Tickets cost 8 euros, 20% discount with cultural passport, Lagoa Social card or Rota do Petisco 2022 Passport, available at ticket offices in the Municipality of Lagoa.

On the 9th, at 19 pm, the orchestra will perform at the Church of Santa Maria, in Lagos, with a ticket costing 00 euros.

The “Sons D'Aquém Mar” festival is artistically directed by harpsichordist Elsa Mathei and has the support of the Municipality of Lagoa, Municipality of Lagos, Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and Tourism of the Algarve.
