Refugee from Ukraine without October salary and prevented from working at the SMY Santa Eulália Hotel

Algarve Hotel Industry Union will ask the Authority for Working Conditions to intervene

The Algarve Hotel, Tourism, Restaurant and Similar Industry Workers Union denounced today the situation of a worker at the SMY Santa Eulália Hotel (Albufeira), who is a refugee from Ukraine and will not be receiving her October salary, as well as being prevented from to work.

According to the Union, the SMY Santa Eulália Hotel «hired several workers, through Carismático Compromisso Unipessoal Lda», but is allegedly «preventing a refugee worker from Ukraine from taking up her job».

In addition, «according to the worker, she still has not received her salary for the month of October, which is preventing her from paying her expenses, such as housing, food, among others».

The Sindicato da Hotelaria do Algarve claims that it has already gone to the hotel with the worker, having confirmed on the spot that she is being prevented from carrying out her duties.

Last week, the worker «was confronted with a communication of change of her place of work to the Hotel SMY Lisboa, in relation to which she has already opposed with the help of the Union».

The Algarve Hospitality Union also announces that it will "request the intervention of the Authority for Working Conditions" and that, "if the situation is not resolved, the union will resort to all legal means to guarantee the worker's rights".
