Quelfes warns of the importance of protecting pollinating insects

“Pausa para Pousar, Quelfes a Pollinar” is the parish’s new project

“Pausa para Pousar, Quelfes a Pollinar” is a new parish project that aims to raise awareness in the entire community of the need to protect pollinating insects.

The project was presented last Saturday, November 19, as part of the Environment Week.

In a note, the parish of Quelfes recalls that these insects are disappearing, "which has consequences for our own survival, given that the pollination carried out by these small animals, whether wild or domesticated, is absolutely vital for food security, biodiversity and contribute to the creation of fibers (cotton and flax), medicines, biofuels, construction materials (wood), among others, in addition to acting directly on our well-being».

Scheduled to start in the spring of next year, “Pausa para Pousar, Quelfes a Pollinar” aims to promote the protection of pollinating insects, with the change in the frequency of grass cuts in the parish’s green spaces, the assumption of spontaneous vegetation in some flowerbeds and gardens, the non-use of any type of chemical pesticide and, in the near future, the creation of shelters for wild pollinators and solitary bees.
