Quarteira hosts Small Fishing Congress

The initiative is organized by Docapesca, with the high sponsorship of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the institutional support of Associação Natureza Portugal/WWF

The Small Fishing Congress takes place on the 4th of December, at the Quarteira Municipality Centre, bringing together producers' organisations, shipowners' associations, shipbuilding and repair yards, non-governmental organisations, universities and research centres.

The initiative is organized by Docapesca, with the high sponsorship of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the institutional support of Associação Natureza Portugal/WWF.

On the debate table, there will be themes such as the attractiveness of the fishing sector, the valuation of fish, the modernization of the fleet, co-management processes and the challenges facing the sector.

The Small Fisheries Congress takes place in the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture, declared by the UN to raise awareness of the role of small-scale fisheries and aquaculture for our food systems, livelihoods, culture and environment, as well as strengthening the science-policy interaction, empowering stakeholders to act and build new partnerships as well as strengthen existing ones.
