PSD wants to know if the Government abandoned the EN125 requalification project

The Social Democrats also accuse Minister Pedro Nuno Santos of avoiding “discussing the issue in the Assembly of the Republic”.

The Algarve deputies of the PSD demand to know whether the project for the requalification of the EN125 was “abandoned” by the Government, since “it is not included in the State Budget for 2023”.

The Social Democrats also accuse Minister Pedro Nuno Santos, responsible for the Infrastructure portfolio, of avoiding “discussing the issue in the Assembly of the Republic”.

«The requalification works of the EN125 were announced in 2008 and should have been completed in 2012. But, 14 years later, what the Algarve knows is that this road remains abandoned and nothing has been done. The only thing we know is that every month millions of euros are paid in compensation to the concessionaire, to which another 30 million paid initially are added», considers the deputy Ofélia Ramos.

The parliamentarian guarantees that she will “continue to question the Minister until there is a clear and objective answer on this fundamental path for the Algarve”.

About two years ago, the Sotavento section of the EN125 – which did not undergo requalification works in 2017 – was the subject of “small conservation works”, far from the long-desired substantive intervention.

According to the PSD, at the moment, Infraestruturas de Portugal is “paying a monthly sum of 1,2 million euros to Rotas do Algarve (to which an initial compensation of 30 million euros is added), following an action brought by the sub-concessionaire to terminate the sub-concession contract and which provides for compensation of approximately EUR 445 million'.
