Digital program for the interior of the municipality of Loulé has already seen the court of auditors

An investment amounting to 2 million euros

The Court of Auditors gave a favorable approval to the digital program aimed at the economic and social development of the interior of the municipality of Loulé, whose works could thus start soon.

According to the Municipality, this is a «structuring project» with very clear objectives of combating the desertification of the interior, boosting economic activity, attracting investment and generating jobs, settling new inhabitants, supporting the local population and preserving the environmental heritage.

The expansion of the coverage of the mobile communications network to 98% of this territory, which includes the parishes of Alte, Ameixial, Salir and União de Freguesias Querença, Tôr and Benafim, through a set of solutions and equipment, «will be the main point of a investment that responds to a need that has long been felt», the municipality also mentions, stressing that one of the priority lines of this program is to attract investment and new businesses «that will have better digital conditions to develop their activity here and create new jobs job".

According to the Municipality of Loulé, this economic dynamism will pass through the decisive commitment to inland tourism, whether in the framework of the Aspiring UNESCO World Geopark project, with, for example, the provision of itineraries and digital guides for the interactivity of visitors, or through the monitoring and location of tourist activity, to understand the affluence and preferences of visitors, essential data for promotion and marketing purposes.

«In an area marked by the problems of desertification and demographic ageing, this program will help the population in case of need, for example through GPS location solutions and provision of assistance communications for the elderly population», considers the Municipality of Loulé.

In addition, it will also be an incentive for young people to settle in these areas, as they will find «better conditions for learning and personal development, but also greater job prospects, and may even make remote work possible, thus attracting a whole generation of nomads digital».

This is also a project focused on protecting the forest and environmental ecosystem, as it will integrate fire surveillance and monitoring devices that will be essential to preserve this natural heritage.

This digital program provides for the acquisition of three meteorological stations to complement the three currently in operation in the municipality, as well as various software, specifically a mobile application and associated content to promote tourism.

This is an investment amounting to 2 million euros.
