Portimão warns of food waste on Healthy Food and Cooking Day

Portimão will mark the European Day of Healthy Food and Cuisine, promoting a debate on the theme “Respecting Food Avoids Waste”, on the 8th of November, at the TEMPO café-concert – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, between 10:00 am and 13:00 am. at XNUMX:XNUMX pm.

Talking about this issue will be Nuno Cabrita Alves, president of Banco Alimentar do Algarve, nutritionist Joana Lopo, Teresa Fernandes, responsible for communication and environmental education at Águas do Algarve, Maria Palma Mateus, coordinating professor at the University of Algarve and specialist in Nutrition Community and Public Health, and Gonçalo Santos, responsible for the “Organic” project at EMARP – Portimão Municipal Water and Waste Company, under the moderation of the DUAL Portimão coordinator Joana Bastos.

In a note, the municipality states that the European Day of Healthy Food and Cuisine is marked in the member states of the European Union with the aim of encouraging citizens to choose a balanced, nutritious and waste-free diet, adopting a healthier lifestyle. , in order to curb the current growth in obesity in Europe.

The activity is aligned with the Portimão Saudável – Nutrition, Sports and Health program and has the support of BA Algarve, DUAL Portimão and EMARP, entities that, according to the Municipality, «play an important role in the fight against food waste, being one of the initiatives foreseen within the scope of the association of the municipality to the commemorations of the 25th anniversary of the Healthy Municipalities Network (RMS), of which it has been a part since 2017»

Formally constituted on October 10, 1997, the RMS is currently composed of 66 municipalities and its mission is to support the dissemination, implementation and development of the “Healthy Cities” project in municipalities that intend to assume health promotion as a priority on the agenda of decision-makers. politicians.
