Painting, music and conferences mark the December agenda at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes

Highlight of the program is the conference-debate "Teixeira Gomes - War and Peace"

Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, in Portimão, has prepared a program for the month of December with musical moments, exhibitions by painters from Portimão and the conference-debate “Teixeira Gomes – War and Peace” by professor Nuno Severiano Teixeira.

The first exhibition, “Entre.linhas”, will be open from the 2nd of December to the 27th of January, bringing together paintings by Rita Cosma, born in Portimão. With a degree in Visual Arts from the University of Algarve, the painter presents a set of works that deal with the theme of physical and/or mental “connections”, represented by lines, of different colors and dimensions, which connect two elements, (imaginary or not) , objects, people, places or feelings, each corresponding to a knot/loop.

On the same date, starting at 17 pm, the young music students of the Professional Course for String and Keyboard Players, from the Bemposta School Group, will have their Christmas performance.

On 3 December, the João Sena exhibition “XXV” will open at 16 pm, with which the artist celebrates 00 years of paintings.

Open until the 27th of January, the exhibition brings together works by the painter, born in the city of Portimão, in 1972, and who from a very early age felt a great interest in various artistic expressions, particularly painting.

João Sena studied and investigated various techniques and styles with different materials, such as oil, acrylic, pastel and charcoal, among others, revealing in his paintings a great fascination for Salvador Dalí's surrealism and an obsession in perfecting a style of painting techniques of his own.

For 17:00 on December 7th, the concert “Singing to the Boy” was scheduled, where the Grupo Coral de Portimão will perform traditional and popular songs as part of the celebrations of the Day of the City of Portimão.

The highlight of the December program is the conference-debate “Teixeira Gomes – War and Peace”, by professor Nuno Severiano Teixeira, which will start at 18 pm on 30 December, also forming part of the program for the of the City.

Nuno Severiano Teixeira proposes to address at the conference the relevant role of the then plenipotentiary minister of Portugal in London (when the country entered the Great War 1914-1918), who became vice-president of the general assembly of the League of Nations, predecessor of the UN.

Professor and vice-rector of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the lecturer is also director of the Portuguese Institute of International Relations.

On December 17, at 18 pm, there will be a concert inspired by the musical taste of Manuel Teixeira Gomes, entitled “Manuel Teixeira Gomes and the music that gave him peace”, by pianist Laura Quaresma and Bárbara Santos, cellist.

Works by B. Marcello, Bridge, F. Mendelssohn, Rachmaninov, F. Schubert, F. Chopin, E. Bloch, Glazunov, Fauré will be performed on the occasion.
