Pedra Dura – Algarve Dance Festival starts with documentary presentation

From the 10th to the 13th of November

Lagos will host the Pedra Dura – Algarve Dance Festival, between the 10th and 13th of November, which begins with the presentation of the documentary “A body that dances – Ballet Gulbenkian 1965 -2005”.

The documentary is signed by Marco Martins, who observes the development of dance in Portugal and the country's history from the experiences of an emblematic company Ballet Gulbenkian, and is presented at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, on Thursday, at 21:00.

The next morning, dance goes to schools with “the big trip of the little Mi”, a workshop-show by Madalena Victorino, Ana Raquel and Beatriz Marques about the power of imagination.

At the end of Friday afternoon, adults can join children at the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, where astronomer Máximo Ferreira talks about the stars in “Lágrimas do Céu”. Admission is free from 18:30 pm.

In the evening, at 21 pm, at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, it is Duarte Valadares' turn to present “Rubble King”, a show that evokes the presence of an intelligent artificial. After the show, the video 'Reduced Scale' by Sofia Dias, Vítor Roriz and Joana Linda will be screened. From 00:23, there is music at the Nox Club with the DJ set Pashon Froot.

On Saturday, the festival continues at the Escola de Dança de Lagos, where, at 10:30 am, choreographer Amélia Bentes gives a masterclass. At 21 pm, Ana Borralho & João Galante present the performance “Estrelas Cadentes (Metal e Melancholia)”, an abstract object that speaks through the sound played live. D

Then the invitation is to go out and look at the stars. At 22:30 pm, the meeting point is set next to the Statue of S. Gonçalo de Lagos for an observation of the night sky to reveal some of the secrets of the universe. On Saturday there is also entertainment with the DJ set by Sónia Trópicos and João Pissarro at the Nox Club.

Closing the festival, on Sunday, “Atlas da Boca” is presented at 16:30 pm at the Centro Cultural de Lagos. This show by Gaya de Medeiros starts from an investigation of two trans bodies about the mouth as a place of intersection between the word, identity and voice, public and private, eroticism and politics, in a search for new narratives.

Pedra Dura – Algarve Dance Festival has the artistic direction of Daniel Matos and Joana Duarte. The production is by CAMA ac and the financing is by the Lagos City Council.
