Municipality of Aljezur receives Medal of Honor for Merit awarded by the Liga dos Combatentes

President of the municipality was at the ceremony in Lisbon at the invitation of the Liga dos Combatentes

The Municipality of Aljezur was awarded the Medal of Honor to Merit awarded by the Liga dos Combatentes, on the 11th of November, at the ceremony celebrating the 104th anniversary of the Armistice of the Great War, which took place in Lisbon, next to the Forte do Bom Sucesso, in Belem.

José Gonçalves, Mayor of Aljezur, received the medal from Lieutenant General Joaquim Chito Rodrigues, president of the Liga dos Combatentes.

«This distinction, which greatly honors the Municipality of Aljezur, is the recognition of the collaboration between the Municipality and the Liga dos Combatentes who, in recent years, have developed a series of initiatives, such as the Evocative Monument to the Aljezurenses killed in combat in the overseas wars , the plot in the Aljezur Cemetery and also the protocol signed between the City Council and the Aljezur Nucleus», explains the municipality.

 

 

The ceremony of the 104th anniversary of the Armistice of the Great War was attended by the Minister of Defence, among other civil and military entities.

At this time, the 101st anniversary of the foundation of the Liga dos Combatentes is also celebrated, as well as the 48th anniversary of the end of the Overseas War.
