It wasn't possible to do it in the summer, but it will happen. O Monchique Hiking Festival, which will take place from the 1st to the 4th of December, registration is already (re)open and has new features in relation to the original programme.
Those interested in taking the Monchique trails can register until the 25th of November, filling in the form available here.
After, in June, the Municipality of Monchique canceled the event, which should have taken place on the 10th, 11th and 12th of that month, due to very high or maximum risk of fire, the festival has been rescheduled and will now take place, with one more day and a reinforced programme, «to pay homage to water», according to the municipality.
The adjustment that was made to the schedule, which can be consulted in full here, made it possible to introduce «new proposals and new routes, such as Mycological Walks, Geocaching and Contados Paths (walks with history)».
Children's activities are also planned, «which promise to give a special character to the festival, with the combination of walks to different themes, providing an event rich in landscapes, information, culture and diverse activities», reveals the Câmara de Monchique.
The Monchique Hiking Festival is an event integrated in the annual calendar of AWS – Algarve Walking Season, a regional project to jointly promote hiking festivals in the Algarve, and in the Project “Revitalize Monchique – Tourism as a catalyst“, financed by Turismo de Portugal.
The event, promoted by the Municipality of Monchique, is co-promoted by the Algarve Tourism Board, the Algarve Tourism Association and the Almargem Association.
