Helena Tapadinhas at the Silves Library for a talk about the short story «Alfaiate»

Award-winning short story sparks conversation in the library

The award-winning short story “Alfaiate”, by Helena Tapadinhas, will set the tone for a gathering next Saturday, November 26th, at 16 pm, at the Silves Municipal Library.

Distinguished with the Santos Stockler Literary Prize, awarded by the Câmara de Lagoa, “Alfaiate” is an extraordinary narrative, which gives voice to a dog with the same name and which addresses, according to the author, the “change of a cultural paradigm” described through a succession of brief stories “of what was the foundation of cultures, when people lived off the territory, they lived off what the land or the sea provided”.

Helena Tapadinhas was born in 1969, in Luanda (Angola). She graduated in teaching Biology and Geology at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and has a master's degree in Creativity from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

Implemented the Regional Program for Environmental Education through Art (PREAA) in the Regional Directorate of Education of the Algarve, between 1997 and 2011, with the promotion of network projects, where the imaginary is the gateway to the study of the territory.

“Operação Lágrimas Negras”, “Guardiões da Água do Algarve” and “Contos do Mago – narratives and geological routes” are examples of PREAA thematic cycles with a strong impact on the exercise of citizenship.

She was part of the Aesthetic and Artistic Education Program team, of the Directorate-General for Education, and is currently the intermunicipal coordinator of the National Arts Plan, set up by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture.

He held positions as an associative leader at the Núcleo do Algarve of the League for the Protection of Nature and at Ideias do Levante, Cultural Association.

Author of several theater projects, oral narration, music, photography and literature, she has works published in the areas of education, science, environment and art.

She was distinguished with the «Prémio Literário Santos Stockler», from the City Council of Lagoa, in the 2017 edition, on heritage, with the short story “Alfaiate”, and in the 2019 edition, on education, with the novel “Barro Cru”.
