The official grandfondo of Volta ao Algarve returns after two years of forced stop, due to the pandemic. The Algarve Granfondo will take place on the 19th of February, in Lagoa, and registration opens this Thursday.
It is the opportunity for everyone to ride on the same stage that will receive the big international stars, who, once again, will make up the peloton of the Volta ao Algarve.
«The proposed challenge is for each one to overcome himself, pedaling through the Algarve yet to be discovered, while experiencing the atmosphere of the Volta ao Algarve, one of the biggest sporting events in the country», stresses the organization.
Participants in the Algarve Granfondo will be able to choose between two routes. The Granfondo, with 134 kilometers and an accumulated of 2325 meters, or the Mediofondo, with 88 kilometers and an accumulated of 1220 meters. In both cases, departure and arrival will be in Lagoa.
The most daring and well prepared who choose the Granfondo will have the opportunity to climb Fóia, the highest point in the Algarve and a mythical place in the decision of the Volta ao Algarve. It will be one of three climbs on the longer route. The other climbs are Casais and Picota, which are also part of the Mediofondo route.
In 2023, there will be a novelty in the Algarve Granfondo. Classifications will be made by age category. Both in the men's and women's sector, winners will be found in under-23, elite, master 30, master 40, master 50 and master 60.
Registration opens at 20:00 pm this Thursday, November 24, in https://www.algarvegranfondo.com/🇧🇷 There will be two application periods. The first, until December 31st, guarantees discounts. Until the end of 2022, registration costs 35 euros for members of the Portuguese Cycling Federation and 40 euros for other participants. As of the 1st of January, prices will increase to 40 and 45 euros, for members and non-members, respectively.
The Algarve Granfondo will be organized by the Algarve Cycling Association.
