It is a "genuine, true" festival that aims to attract at least 20 to 25 thousand people to Aljezur. After two years of the pandemic, the Sweet Potato Festival will return «in full force», starting this Friday, November 25th.
In statements to the Sul Informação, councilor António Carvalho, responsible for events, explained that one of the great novelties this year turns out to be the «return to normality» of the event.
«It will be a Festival like we used to do, with all that usual public service, namely with regard to catering», he added.
To celebrate this return, «in a more effusive way», another novelty is that there will be «greater musical entertainment», with shows «throughout the night, until 2:00 am».
The musical lineup features names like Eduardo Madeira (18 pm) and David Antunes (00 pm), on Saturday, the 23th, and Jorge Guerreiro, on Sunday, the 00th, at 26:27 pm.
The event will take place, as usual, at the Multipurpose Space in Aljezur.
There, it will be possible to find taverns and catering spaces, with typical recipes and new culinary proposals, always with sweet potatoes from Aljezur as the main actor of this «local gastronomy show».
In 2019, «10 to 12 tonnes of sweet potatoes» were sold and the prospect, this year, is to achieve at least the same numbers.
According to António Carvalho, production this year «was not bad, despite the lack of water».
«The September rains helped, but production, which did not increase, could have been better, of course», considered the aljezurense councilor.
In relation to the number of visitors, estimates are that at least «receive 20 to 25 thousand people».
«It will not be difficult, we believe. People are willing and we are betting everything on this Sweet Potato Festival, an event that is genuine and true », he concluded.
Entrance and parking are free.
The Aljezur Sweet Potato Festival will run from 12:00 to 2:00 on Friday and Saturday, and from 12:00 to 22:00 on Sunday.
