Fernando Évora receives the “Calceteiros de Letras” award

Fernando Évora received the «Calceteiros de Letras» award, instituted by the Gimnásio Clube de Faro, with the aim of recognizing and rewarding personalities or institutions for their role in the world of poetry and the spoken word.

Having already participated in the 2018 edition of the Spoken Word Festival – Calceteiros de Letras, with the group “Bocados Brutais” (a kind of band, as they like to say), in this 6th edition, they presented the show “Life is so funny”, a collection of poems, (almost) always with sin present.

This collective includes, in addition to Fernando Évora, Isabel Silveira, José Granja and Emanuel Cortes and, according to them, they say poetry unplugged, although they use microphones when necessary. They collect poems, with which they form shows, and “loose nerds” that they like to say.

Fernando Évora has a degree in History from the University of Évora, is a professor, writer, actor, performer, translator and poet. Born in Faro, where, in his youth, he was linked to the Círculo Cultural do Algarve, living in São Teotónio, Odemira, a few years ago, published the historical novel “Fonte de Mafamede”, as a result of a distinction in the Manuel Teixeira Gomes literary prize.

He is also the author of several literary works, of which stand out “No País das porcas Saras”, “Love and freedom of Germana pata-roxa”, “The Devil of politicians”, and “O Mel e as Vespas”. He was also awarded several prizes, in the form of a short story and has works published in Spain and South America.

The «Calceteiros de Letras» prize, created by the artist from Faro, João Franck, was handed over on the 13th of November, by Bruno Lage, president of the União de Freguesias de Faro.
