The PSD deputies, elected by the Algarve, will call the Health Commission, as a matter of urgency, the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA), the Health Regulatory Entity, the Oncological Association of the Algarve and the Movement in Advocacy for Cancer Patients in the Algarve due to transfer to Spain of radiosurgery treatments.

Last October, the PSD accused the CHUA of awarding the radiosurgery treatments to a company in Seville.

The Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve confirmed the situation at the time, clarifying, however, that radiotherapy and radiosurgery are “very different” treatments, starting with the fact that radiosurgery involves “a single journey for the patient”.

«There was a contest, Spain won, legally, and we have to comply with the conditions of that contest», explained Horácio Guerreiro, clinical director.

The PSD does not conform to this argument.

«It is curious that the CHUA now comes to defend with the greatest naturalness the construction of an oncology center in the Algarve, but never cautioned that radiosurgery treatments were carried out in the region. And more serious is having stated that these treatments would always be carried out in the Algarve», accuses deputy Rui Cristina. 🇧🇷

«Algarvians deserve more and better and deserve, above all, a quality and close health service, where they can be treated without having to travel hundreds of kilometers», he adds.

For deputies Luís Gomes, Rui Cristina and Ofélia Ramos, in addition to clarifications from CHUA, «it is important to obtain the testimony of the various social organizations in the region that have alerted the country to the injustice of this situation, as well as the Health Regulatory Entity, as independent administrative entity responsible for supervising the activity and operation of health care establishments with regard to guaranteeing the rights relating to access to health care, the provision of quality health care, as well as the other rights of users ».
