Counterweight, a wolf and Beethoven to see at Cineteatro Louletano

The month kicks off with the Contrapeso Festival

The Contrapeso Festival, theater and an opera for schools. Cineteatro Louletano has several proposals for the month of December.

The month kicks off with Festival Contrapeso, organized by Associação Mákina de Cena, based in Loulé, co-produced by Cineteatro Louletano. This second edition of the festival, which takes place on purpose in the low season, has an international character, with multiple guests in the field of jazz music, theater and performance, coming from France, Scotland, South Korea and Australia, among other countries.

The festival starts on the 1st and runs until the 4th, with shows at the Cineteatro Louletano, at the Solar da Música Nova Auditorium and, of course, at Casa da Mákina, near the Church of São Francisco, in Loulé.

On the 4th of December, the Cineteatro hosts a documentary, the first film by journalist Sofia Pinto Coelho, entitled “Daniel and Daniela”.

This is a work about a father – Daniel, 83 years old – who takes his daughter Daniela, 12, on a journey to her origins in Cape Verde, passing through São Tomé and Príncipe and Guinea-Bissau. Entry is free.

On the 7th, there is a session for schools, with “Eu Cá Tu Lá”, a piece that resulted from a residency at the Festival Verão Azul in Loulé, and which included students from the Conservatório de Música de Loulé – Francisco Rosado.

On the 9th, ACTA will take to Loulé “Pedras com Asas”, in a free reinterpretation of Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet”, with Carolina Teixeira and Carlos Pereira, in a staging by Luís Vicente with text by Alexandre Honrado. The session, at 21:00, will have an Audiodescription service, for people who are blind and have low vision.

On the 13th and 14th, the international opera “A Menina, o Caçador e o Lobo”, by Vasco Mendonça, with texts by Gonçalo M. Tavares and collaboration with director Inne Goris, will arrive in Loulé in a version for schools in the municipality.

The musical direction is by Jan Wierzba, with Frank Van Eycken on percussion, Nico Couck on electric guitar, Yuko Fukumae on clarinet and Seraphine Stragier on cello.

The voices are by Lara Rainho (soprano), Mariana de Sousa (mezzo-soprano) and Logan Lopez Gonzalez (countertenor). The opera tries to rewrite the story of the Big Bad Wolf, changing the perception we have about one of the most internationally known villains.

“The Girl, the Hunter and the Wolf” includes an open rehearsal for the students of the Music Conservatory of Loulé – Francisco Rosado, on the 13th.

On the 15th, the “Conversas à Quinta” return, at the Louletano Cineteatro Bar, with “Beethoven, the Revolutionary”. The conversation will take place at 21 pm with international bassist Carlos Bica, saxophonist Daniel Erdmann, DJ Illvibe and accordionist João Barradas.

The moderation will be in charge of the pianist Sérgio Leite, director of the Music Conservatory of Loulé – Francisco Rosado. Carlos Bica will be in Loulé to present a commission from Cineteatro Louletano, entitled “Playing with Beethoven”. The concert by this luxury quartet – scheduled for the 17th, at 21 pm – was scheduled for 00, the year in which the 2020th anniversary of the birth of the German composer was celebrated.

On the same day, but a little earlier, at 17 pm, there is another concert from the “Crescendo” cycle, organized by the Conservatório de Música de Loulé – Francisco Rosado, in the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, with the participation of students from the institution.

«And the following day, on the 18th, but in Quarteira, the Church of São Pedro do Mar receives the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, for another traditional Christmas concert at 16 pm.
