With Rui Veloso, “There are no stars in the sky”, but there is skydive on New Year's Eve in Albufeira

Carpe Nox is back in Albufeira with entertainment on land, in the sky and at sea

Rui Veloso and his best-known songs, a Show unprecedented aerial tour, involving parachutists, and an aquatic pyromusical show are the suggestions of yet another Carpe Nox, Albufeira's New Year's Eve party, which was presented yesterday, Friday, November 4th.

The City Council, in partnership with the Albufeira Promotion Agency, is back to betting on the concept that debuted in 2019 and that brought «about 180 thousand people» to the Praia dos Pescadores area on New Year’s Eve, but which had to be suspended. in the last two years, due to the pandemic.

In addition to the program New Year's Eve Albufeira's New Year's Eve party will also feature the now traditional Paderne Medieval, with the Solrir humor festival, in a condensed version, and with Paderne's live broadcast of the Somos Portugal program, on TVI, with passages on downtown Albufeira, on the 31st of December.

«Albufeira Carpe Nox was born in 2019. We created a brand that immediately stood out at a national and international level», said José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira.

The concept took hold and, as can be seen with the realization of Albufeira Carpe Nox 2022, it seemed to have everything to “take a stake”. However, two years of the pandemic prevented it from happening again, in 2020/21 and in 2021/22.

«This year, the situation is very different, so we decided to resume this initiative», summarized the mayor of Albufeira.

In 2022/2023, Carpe Nox will have “a slightly different philosophy, although it is very similar to the one in 2019, which gave such a good sign”, he added.

This year, the artist chosen to animate the party, starting at 22 pm, was Rui Veloso, who will give a show with “a special lineup”, lasting two hours, according to Carla Ponte, head of the Tourism Division, Economic Development and Cultural of the Municipality of Albufeira.

The Portuguese “father of rock”, as he is nicknamed, will present a «special show, where he takes a journey through his entire career», with Tatanka, lead singer of The Black Mamba, as a guest.

This is a «different concert, only built for here, to celebrate the musician's 30 years of career», since it was intended to be presented on New Year's Eve 2021/22, which ended up being canceled by the Chamber, due to the pandemic.

In the 2019 edition, one of the highlights «was the pointing out of the planes. This year we went further and we will have a moment of skydive art, accompanied by fireworks, unheard of in Europe. A dozen paratroopers, some of them world champions, others ex-military, are putting together a show to present in Albufeira, when it strikes midnight».

Another highlight is «an aquatic pyromusical show», with pyrotechnics, light, lasers and special effects, accompanied by a soundtrack by Gualter Santos (DJ Guga), who will also set the music for the skydive.

DJ Guga, resident at Antena 3, will continue his live act into the night.

Between the 29th of December and the 1st of January, the village of Paderne hosts its «already usual» medieval event, promoted by the Câmara de Albufeira in partnership with the local Parish Council and Casa do Povo.

This initiative combines historical recreation with performances, without forgetting the medieval market and gastronomy.

Solrir is another of the initiatives that have already become “traditional” in Albufeira and now has a more condensed two-day version, with shows taking place on December 30th and January 1st, at the Palácio de Congressos dos Salgados.

Among other comedians, the Brazilian Abdiás Melo will be present, who became known for the humorous videos he made from Lisbon Airport, about the cancellations of TAP flights in the summer.
