Castro Marim inaugurates nativity scene made with 6 tons of salt

The nativity scene can be visited until the 8th of January, every day, between 9:00 am and 13:00 pm and 14:30 pm and 17:30 pm

The Salt Crib, from Castro Marim, made with five tons, will be inaugurated on the 8th of December, at 16 pm.

The nativity scene «this year is expressed in new languages, combining origin with tradition and the arts», says the Câmara de Castro Marim.

The motto was innovation and the crib is very much the fruit of the work and collaboration of the collector Ernesto Pires. The challenge was also launched to two local artists, to add their creative interpretations to the traditional salt nativity scene. Without losing sight of historical and religious rigor, Nuno Rufino and Abel Viegas «give new forms and colors to a narrative that is familiar to us all – the birth of Jesus».

Continuing with the aim of promoting and reinforcing the great economic, social and cultural engine of Castro Marim, which is salt, around six tons of salt are used in the construction of this nativity scene.

The nativity scene, which is an initiative of the municipality and Parish Council of Castro Marim, can be visited until January 8, every day, between 9:00 am and 13:00 pm and 14:30 pm and 17:30 pm.
