On the 18th of November, the Portimão Council began information and awareness actions on noise, aimed at restaurant and bar owners, to whom a leaflet was distributed containing information about live, acoustic or amplified music.
During this first street action, the municipality's inspection teams visited the establishments in the parish of Alvor, whose owners, according to the municipality, «demonstrated great receptiveness regarding the information provided, related to the rules currently in force, mainly with regard to sound power limiters and their mandatory installation».
These measures have been in force since the publication of the Municipal Regulation on the Opening Hours of Commercial and Service Provider Establishments in the Municipality of Portimão, on 19 January 2016.
The Regulation includes rules and procedures aimed at preventing noise and controlling noise pollution, in order to safeguard human health and the well-being of the population, especially at night.
The Municipality of Portimão adds that "the deadline established for the application of the regulation in question ended on 18 January 2019, and the respective standards must be scrupulously complied with in the establishments installed or to be installed in the municipality".
Awareness actions will take place in various locations in the municipality, and for this purpose the Portimão Council has prepared an information leaflet with specific questions and answers on the issue of music in commercial establishments, also providing in a structured way the regulations in force, forms and requirements , which are also available on the website www.cm-portimao.pt
