Albufeira decides to support the hiring of a third team of volunteer firefighters

With about 37 thousand euros

The Municipality of Albufeira decided, in a meeting of the Chamber, this Wednesday, 2 November, to approve a protocol of conditions and contracting for the operation of a third Permanent Intervention Team (EIP) of the Volunteer Firefighters of the city.

Since the Government advocates strengthening the professionalization of Firefighters, promoting the gradual development of IPEs, the National Association for Civil Protection and the Albufeira City Council established a Protocol in which they share equitably the costs arising from the remuneration of the elements of this team, as well as such as charges relating to the Social Security Regime, Insurance and Occupational Accidents and Hygiene and Safety at Work Fee, with an estimated value of more than 74 thousand euros.

Of this amount, around 37 thousand euros will be allocated to the Municipality of Albufeira.

Providing Albufeira with a new team that will be permanently at the fire station is, according to José Carlos Rolo, mayor, “an operational need already identified, so it was urgent to form this third team”.

In a note, the municipality states that Albufeira is a municipality with more than 44 inhabitants, doubling in festive seasons, a factor that enhances the increase in various risks and vulnerabilities.

“The creation of an EIP reinforces and improves the ability to help in multiple areas, such as firefighting, assistance to populations in the event of fires, floods, landslides, collisions and in all accidents or catastrophes, shipwrecks and complementary assistance. This third team should also act in situations of extrication or support to victims in the context of pre-hospital urgency, minimization of risks in situations of forecast or occurrence of a serious accident, as well as, in collaboration with other civil protection activities», reads. if still.
