Quarteira is the first parish in the Network of Participatory Municipalities to win an award for good participatory practices. The 'Quarteira Decide' project was distinguished this Thursday, October 20, with an honorable mention within the scope of the 5th Participatory Budgeting Meeting, which took place at Nova SBE, in Cascais.

In just under a year, residents of the IGAPHE, Checul, Abelheira and Amendoeira neighborhoods were invited to participate in the 'Quarteira Decide', in which, through a participatory budget methodology, they were able to decide and implement projects that they considered most important and relevant to their community.

Each neighborhood had its own budget that was debated and consensual among residents. To accompany and facilitate this process, local tutors were selected and trained.

«This award is theirs: Érica, Giovanna, João, Miguel, Naina, Samuel, Taissa and Vasco. The young tutors, who brought more unity, harmony and quality of life and well-being, to their residential areas and respective community», says Telmo Pinto, president of the Parish Council of Quarteira.

«Quarteira Decide came to demonstrate that it makes more and more sense to involve the population in decisions for the improvement of the parish. Being participatory only brings us benefits, either by approaching the community or by the union that is built between people», adds the mayor.

The Quarteira Decide project is coordinated by Associação Oficina, in partnership with the Parish Council of Quarteira, the Municipality of Loulé and the Youth Association Akredita Em Ti.
