Piano, Meerkat, theater and dance make up the TEMPO program in November

Theater and dance end the program

A concert by the 7th Algarve International Piano Festival, the performance of the Orquestra Sinfónica do Algarve, plus a Live Frontal Shock, with the presence of the Suricata band, the passage of ACTA – A Companhia de Teatro do Algarve and a dance show created and directed by the well-known choreographer Marion Sparber. This will be, in summary, the schedule of TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão for the month of November.

The program starts at 19:00 pm on the 12th of November, with a concert as part of the 7th Algarve International Piano Festival, which will bring soloist Rodrigo Teixeira, winner of the Young Musicians Award 2022, to the Grand Auditorium to interpret works by Beethoven (“Sonata No.30 in E Major, Op.109”), Rachmaninoff (“Sonata No.2, Op.36”), Bartók (“Piano Sonata, Sz.80”) and Liszt (“Piano Sonata, Sz.80”).

The young Rodrigo Teixeira, who works as an accompanying pianist at the Academia de Música da Maia, studied with names such as Jill Lawson, Teresa Xavier, Helena Galante and Fausto Neves, among others, and his curriculum includes several awards in national and international competitions.

Tickets cost between 12 and 20 euros and are on sale at https://tempo.bol.pt and at the TEMPO ticket office, the only place where a 50 percent discount will be applied to the purchase of tickets for people over 65 and for students, upon presentation of supporting documentation.

On the 15th, the Orquestra Sinfónica do Algarve will interpret the classic composition for children “Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra”, by Benjamin Britten, which manages, in an objective and clear way, to explain how a symphony orchestra works, the function of each instrument and the respective characteristics.

Since this composition, presented all over the world to schools by the best orchestras, is considered fundamental for the education and general culture of children, two free sessions are scheduled and aimed at the 4th and 5th years of teaching in schools in Portimão (11:00 am and 15:00), with a session scheduled for 19:00 for families, always under the direction of maestro Armando Mota and narrated by Urbano Oliveira

The session for families also includes excerpts from Ravel and Schostakovich, costing the respective ticket 7 euros, to be purchased at https://tempo.bol.pt and at the TEMPO box office.

Next, on November 17th, the return to TEMPO of the program “Choque Frontal ao Vivo” in another session, to which the band Suricata was invited.

Arising from the musical complicity conquered over the years between Pedro Gil, on the electric guitar, Tércio Freire, on the baritone guitar and Paulo Franco on the percussions, Suricata went to the roots of traditional Portuguese music and promoted its crossing with modern music, from which resulted in a sound that merges fado, jazz and blues.

Produced and presented by Ricardo Coelho and Júlio Ferreira, the Alvor FM radio program “Choque Frontal ao Vivo” celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, bringing together 125 guests in each session, who watch the performances and socialize with the artists.

The recordings of the shows are carried out live, always from 21:00, with subsequent transmission on Alvor FM, and those interested must collect the respective invitations at the TEMPO box office, which are free.

Starting at 21:00 pm on November 19, ACTA will take to the TEMPO stage its 83rd production, entitled “Stones with wings”, in which an incredible Juliet plays against the impossibility of a Romeo with no place today, between paradigms of love, of the madness of the alienated man and of the present time.

The action takes place in an unreal cemetery, in an unreal Verona, many years after the Shakespearean drama. Juliet, or a woman who thinks she is Juliet, puts flowers every day on her own grave. She has forgotten where Romeo lies – or never knew. She forgot some details of the drama – if she ever knew them. But she keeps alive the idea that everyone but her deserved a worthy place in history.

In contrast, Romeo – the spirit of Romeo, an ethereal and eternal Romeo – appears to him. He believes he embodies love, but he's going to have some surprises that can shake him. And to shake the viewers.

With text by Alexandre Honrado, staging by Luís Vicente and interpretation by Carolina Teixeira and Carlos Pereira, the show has tickets at a price of 7 euros, on sale at tempo.bol.pt and at the TEMPO box office.

Finally, at 21:00 pm on November 26, the dance show “No, woman, no cry… but when they do?”, by Marion Sparber, which emerged as an artistic invitation to redefine women in the modern world and a response to the men’s play “Big boys don’t cry… but when they do?”, also choreographed by the dancer in 2020.

The idea was to create the counterpart of the male play and present a deep exploration of the genre, resulting in a multidisciplinary dance-theater performance, influenced by the disciplines of dance, circus and live music, that questions the traditional image of femininity in a sarcastic and theatrical way. , answering questions such as what it means to be a woman today, what impact education, emancipation, equality and gender struggle have on femininity, what is not proper for a woman and why they are still at a disadvantage in many areas .

Together with seven women of different nationalities and age groups (performers Alex Kovú, Anna Ting Nissen Bech, Breeanne Camille Saxton, Maja Parysek, Sofia Brito and Tamae Yoneda, who will evolve on stage), Sparber investigates the behavior, expectations and traditions.

Inspired by stereotyped patterns of movement, the social roles of women will be examined and presented in this performance, with the help of different dynamics, in a production by AORCA – Associação de Observação, Regeneração e Criação na Actualidade, which will have the participation of students from the 11th year at EBS Bemposta of the Professional Actor/Actress Interpreter Course.

Tickets for this show also cost 7 euros and are on sale at https://tempo.bol.pt and at the TEMPO ticket office.
